Hey Everyone, i'm Ian i just found this site the other day at work. I'm in the west vally and i'm really trying to get my hands on a MKIII Supra, i found one but this is going to be my first real project car so i'm not sure what all needs to be inspected on it. What does this sound like to you. "the car has been well maintained .
but work it needs is the rear heater hose fitting at the rear of the head is broke off so you may need to be real handy or remove the head" let me know.

Yes you will have to remove the head. Which means new headgasket (which you'll want to replace anyway). I believe the fitting for that hose is part of the head itself though, so it may need a new head.
Welcome to the boards btw.

Thanks for the response, so the car in its condition is un-drivable. That really sucks, I really want this car. If you have any other info please let me know i really don't know anything much about Supra's except they are godly. I've been reading all kinds of different posts and write ups pertaining to the supra so hopefully i can learn.

Welcome to the forums Ian, My old room mate ran into to the same problem on his supra, the rear heater hose fitting on the back of the head was rusted out due to running mineral water threw the cooling system.
You will need to remove the head, and take the head to a machine shop as I believe the part is pressed into the head, you will need to buy a new one from Toyota and they run around $80-120 depending on who you talk to.
Best of luck to you.

The fitting is part of the head? It's not part of the 7M head, that's for sure. The fitting looks like a big bolt with a hole in the middle. If the fitting is fine, changing the hose with the head on is very possible using 90 degree needle nose pliers. I've done it myself, which means anyone can do it. If the fitting is corroded or otherwise damaged, trying to remove it will damage it, so the head does have to come off. Chances are that with the head off, you'll end up having to fix other issues, including the head gasket. These projects do have a way to snowball into full rebuilds.

Agreed. The head wont need to come off. The hose can be replaced easily. If the Actually BANJO bolt is rusted and broken of you might be able to shit get it out..I did at least. And it doesnt get pressed into the head. its just a big bolt like a 32mm

Thanks for the replies, not being too sure on what is actually wrong with it or how to fix it, it helps having all the extra information on it. I need to wait until I have the money to get it before I go to go check it out, the car i beleive is either in mesa or tuscon i cant remember. So this heater hose connector is a bolt? If it is that is a much easier fix then replacing it with a machine press.

I was the old roommate Clint speaks of... just read my old thread a bit and you'll have an idea of what you're getting yourself into. That heater hose connection isn't *impossible* to remove while the engine is in the car, but it would probably be easiest to loosen the mounts and tilt it forward first.
Anyway, here's a link to the old 7m shenannigans thread:

Check my myspace page on there for the accompanying pictures.

Heres some pics of what to expect. If the bolt is not broken but just leaking you might be able to replace it in the car. I was able to replace mine a long time ago because when I bought my car it was leaking. I modified a short socket to fit over it so that I could get a breaker bar and loosen it. The socket I used is actually in the picture, You can see I grinded some metal inside the socket to fit over the pipe. Theres also 2 washers that are used to seal the thing.
If its actually broke off then your probably going to have to remove the head.

I live somewhat close in Surprise so if you need any help let me know.

I don't mean to be a nutswinger here, but that thing is one of the reasons I'm glad Toyota designed the JZ like they did... that setup isn't there.
CPS really isn't all that hard, I believe Albert had it right.
