Well, I figured since my new project is underway(and you need 10 posts for the classified), I might as well get to know a few locals from the Supra world(I'm sure I'll need help). I don't have a supra, I have a Jeep-Rock Buggy. In the quest for more power, I really was hoping to turbo the Jeep motor, but that motor is a POS where the intake and exhaust are all on the same side of the head. In order to add a turbo, the exhaust is usually ran across the bottom to place the turbo on the passenger side, I'm not into that. So I started looking into other powerplants and because of all the my current drivetrain, it is cheaper to use my tranny/atlas II than to do the normal, LSx/gm tranny.

So here is where I'm at now. I have a Aristo 2jzgte, non-vvti, with the auto. The plan, use the motor as is with the turbos and maybe the tranny. This is old news, but the a340e and the jeep aw4 are both made by aisin-warner, with the changes to the bolt-on bellhousing, and tailhousing. The tranny internals share quite a few parts and there are some changes to shift-valving/torque converters/clutches. So I'll be using a combination of both trannies.

I've had my share of cars/projects, e36 m3, e46 m3, 3rd gen Rx-7(this was my track car, some of you might remember it, GT35 single, tons of crap, sold 3 years ago)

Here is the buggy. Honestly, there is not much Jeep left in there. I'm running Fox coilovers all around, Dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear. 39" BFG krawlers, Atals II etc, etc.

Im doing a full tube cage with a built turbo 22r with propane. 3 link front 4 link rear 18' air shocks 37's

Before I ripped it apart to tube it

Yeah, TM. I'm not too familiar with all the toyota guys(other than Uriel). I was going to try and keep my build quiet, but I have a bunch of questions on the 2jz. So I figure I would post up over here and hopefully find the info I need.

So far, the 2jz list i have this:
stock jdm ECU/harness, probably need a fuel management for boost cut
rear sump pan(already have, the front sump is for sale)
stock twins, at least until I get it running and dependable
custom gauges, no supra dash, need to find about tapping into the dummy lights
no emissions stuff, need to look into egr removal
Walbro
rr fpr, already have
Exaust will be 3" and with whatever muffler I can get to fit.

Motor shot.

First question is how much power are you trying to make? At stock boost levels you'll make atleast ~280hp ~330 ftlbs (minus power loss with the 39's)
There is no emssions equipment with it being a JDM motor
Have a map sensor and ignitor?
You can run around 15psi before hitting fuel cut and dont really need a AFPR unless your planning on making crazy power.
I can help you with wiring, Ive done more then 12 cars with 1/2jz motors in supras, cressidas and 240s

As far as power, I'm not planning on anything crazy at first. I'd want to get it reliable and wheelable. If there are issues with the 2jz(oiling, etc) in the buggy, I can always pull it and stick it in something else. As far as I know, nobody is running a 2jz in a rock buggy, there is some swapped 4runners, xj's, etc. So this is experimental at best.

I do have the igniter, I need to check on the map. As far as the wiring, I downloaded and printed out the entire USDM electrical book. I crossed the ecu pimouts with the Aristo and all looked good. Unfortunately, I'm out of town until Friday, so I won't be able to mess with it until then.

JZs are great on oiling the pickup is super lower against the pan, and both pans are tucked up tight.

I spent some time this weekend cleaning a few things up and getting some stuff changed/swapped. I installed the usdm water pump, new timing belt, and the rear sump pan I picked up. the bottom end all looked pretty clean and all the rods felt pretty good. The wiring harness is pretty crunchy and I ordered 6 new coil connectors to replace what was toast. I pulled the intake piping and intake off to look around, everything was in order except a bunch of broken vaccum hoses and connections. Seems like there is a bunch of extra vaccuum hoses that I'm thinking I can eliminate. What are the sensors, that are connected to the vaccuum lines and wastegates?

I put it all back together and will keep working on the wiring. There is a good chance I will fire the motor this upcoming weekend on the engine stand. I'm kinda curious about the turbos, there was oil in the compressor housings.....:no

you don't want to eliminate those vacuum lines or sensors they are the ones that control your twin turbos and good luck on the twins they usually are bad when they have oil on them . and let me guess its the back one that has oil?

Yep, the rear one. I'm sure I'll single turbo this engine.....damnit. Anyways, I scrapped my FD Rx-7 twin turbo setup before I ever ran it. I singled it with a GT35 from the beginning.

How much "control" does the ecu play on the turbos? I was thinking I could simplify things and run non-sequential with a mbc.

Only way you can run true twin is with a custom y pipe, machined sleeve to press in the turbo/ weld the bypass on the manifold
All that you could go with a single

Well, it runs. At least on the engine stand. Everything seems ok, no smoking on the exhaust. I'm going to hook up a radiator and let it run up to operating temperature. I'm not planning on swapping for another month, but I can start building the wiring harness and auxillary controls. I'm hoping to use the ECU to control the electric fans, dummy lights, etc.
Anyways, here is a quick shot. It only ran without a radiator for the duration of the video.
