Welcome to the forums Brett, that was a nice GTO AKA (3000GT) you had there.

I see your looking for a "rare car" well I guess not so much rare these days, but none the less a specific supra? Are you looking to just buy a shell or a MKIII with an already swapped engine? If your looking for a car already done you may want to the think twice about that option. First off when you buy somebody else's project you almost always inherit somebody else's problems haha take it from me I've been around for the 9 years in this game, and from what I have learned and experienced it always best to do your own swaps so you know what your getting yourself into into and in the same token learn something about your car.

When I was younger, I wound up picking up an 88' swapped 1jz supra, granted it looked nice and ran great but like all projects it did come with a laundry list of problems that I myself couldn't iron out with out doing some major reconstructive surgery and spending more money then I really cared to.

We do have a couple of shops on our forum who are very familiar with swapping 1jz/2jz engines into supra's and they tend to do a good job but If you happen to do the swap yourself in a good platform I guarantee you will spend less money doing it yourself then buying a car already done, however I don't know your mechanical knowledge/ ability's nor situation so that is why I will ask the question onto why you want an already swapped supra and what are you looking to do with it?

Note: I don't mean to sound critical but I hate seeing "NEW" people get strayed in the wrong direction.

thanks clint, but yeah its a mkiii with a 1jz already in it, im good with cars id say, the 3000 was the biggest pain in the ass to work on since the guy i bought it from didnt really take good care of it, the only thing id be worried about is where to get parts and what kinds of problems does this motor usually have, mi just trying to get all the info i can on it before i make the decision to buy or not

I know what lies with working on a 3000GT haha which is why I never bought one! Availability of parts for the 1jz is not as big of an issue as it was 6-7 years ago, the 2jz was produced in the states and the 1jz was only available in japan, both nearly share the same components, there are several shops that are now carrying internal parts for the 1jz engine and as far as reliability is concerned there is no issue with that unless you got an engine that was very abused and not taken care of, they do not tend to have as many issues as the notorious 7M does but that's because most people can't help them selves when they push a 20+ year old engine to the brink.

I do suggest you sign up on supramania and supraforums and search around on those forums, they do have a ton of information available and have good resources, but we do have several members on here with both the 1jz and 2jz engine myself included. If you have any questions that you cant find the answer for you can ask it here and I or others would be more then happy to help answer it for you.

There are several shops in Cali, Driftmotion is one and Keizan motorsports is another, also you can look up RHDjapan they sell a bunch of parts, also Jarco use to sell authentic parts but I haven't seen then around in years, and then supra store carries some parts but they are not reliable nor cheap and we also have MJZ performance who are local and IIRC can get parts along with Intense motorsports who are both vendors on this forum.
